Nico is doing it right! =0) In other countries, rice is a substitute for bread, so it is eaten dry to complement your food. In Guate, we pour the rice in the soup or broath or recado (The thick sauce in pepián, jocón, etc) and that takes it to another level.
Oooo that’s a great tip! Thank you for the advice. We find ourselves adding our rice to different sauces and soups. Glad to know this is a common way of eating too!

"some dishes look like Mexican" actually they are Mexican, Guatemala just copies. Tortilla is a Mex staple. Horchata made from Rice is actually from Mexico. Horchata the word is from Spain but it is made differently in many countries.

About Pollo Campero, yes, it is in many parts of the world. Eso que comieron es un Barbecue. But since it is small only for one person, they call it churrasquito. What is roasted beef, chives, guacamole and strained fried beans. Very good . Greetings from Naples Florida. But I’m from Guatemala and I’ve lived here for 19 years
Ha! That market reminds me of Collin’s Avenue on South Beach in Miami. You just walk down the street and everyone is speaking to you in Spanish and trying to pull you into their restaurant! 😂 I LOVE beef tongue! I only like when it’s stewed (like the Cubans do it) but not so much pickled (like the Jews do it).
Haha we’ll have to watch out for the street! It was a little hectic there for a minute 😆 glad you enjoyed the video! We haven’t had beef tongue again yet but maybe very soon 😊
Thank you Amber 🥹 we do try our best but we swear we should be a little further off. .. Who knows haha we can order food and pay for things so we’re pretty happy we can do at least that! lol
Here there are other dishes that I recommend you to try: kaquik (from Cobán), pulik (from Quiche), recado blanco (from Huehuetenango), boxboles (from Quiché, Ixil region), henchiladas, rellenitos (they can be found in throughout the country).
I'm trying to do the math. It says that this video was posted four weeks ago. If you guys posted the same day, or within a couple days of filming the video, then we probably crossed paths since we were in Antigua 10/06/24. We were only there for the day before having to return to Guate that evening, but we did eat lunch at La Casa de Las Sopas which is one of our favorite eateries.
We never knew it was in the US! From what we read online and what the comments are telling us, the franchise originated in Guatemala but can be found in many places across Central America
@@nicoleandmico That’s correct, it originates from GUA. ChatGPT: As of 2024, there are over 80 Pollo Campero locations in the United States. The Guatemalan-based chain has expanded significantly across major cities, particularly in areas with a large Latin American population. The brand continues to grow due to its popularity, especially for its fried and grilled chicken offerings.

O my gosh yes you’re right! I can’t believe I (Mico) didn’t make the connection despite growing up with it. Both very great dishes. We truly are loving the food in Guatemala and a lot of it really does remind me of Filipino food too. Glad you enjoyed!

So far we have had no problems in three months being here. We tend to stick to touristy areas but we do venture off path many times. As many people have commented already, some places are better than others and it’s always important to practice some common sense when visiting new places (that goes for anywhere in the world)

All of it looks so incredible and there is nothing like fresh pupusas. I have yet to make use of the fantastic recipe that another viewer, Walter_Arrecis_Letona sent me to make Mole de Plátano Guatemlateco, but I will soon.

Pepian "perfect turkey meal that you have in Thanksgiving" Thanks for the idea. I know what I will be cooking for Thanksgiving 2024.
I LOVE beef tongue!
Everything looks simply delicious guys
You should be proud of how much Spanish you’ve picked up! I was impressed. Learning another language is so hard
Thank you Amber 🥹 we do try our best but we swear we should be a little further off. .. Who knows haha we can order food and pay for things so we’re pretty happy we can do at least that! lol
Saludos desde Nueva York siempre serán bienvenidos a Guatemala buen provecho
Your Spanish is impressive!
Excelente video 👍
We have Pollo Campero in Texas. I live in Dallas and we have lots of them here
We have a restaurant like that here in Tucson. You know, they’re cooking the tortilla at the entrance of the restaurant. It’s very good too.
Here there are other dishes that I recommend you to try: kaquik (from Cobán), pulik (from Quiche), recado blanco (from Huehuetenango), boxboles (from Quiché, Ixil region), henchiladas, rellenitos (they can be found in throughout the country).
Thank you for the recommendations!
I'm trying to do the math. It says that this video was posted four weeks ago. If you guys posted the same day, or within a couple days of filming the video, then we probably crossed paths since we were in Antigua 10/06/24. We were only there for the day before having to return to Guate that evening, but we did eat lunch at La Casa de Las Sopas which is one of our favorite eateries.
welcome to guatemala

To my knowledge Pollo Campero is a Central American thing. But there should be restaurants in Miami as well.
We never knew it was in the US! From what we read online and what the comments are telling us, the franchise originated in Guatemala but can be found in many places across Central America
@@nicoleandmico
That’s correct, it originates from GUA.
ChatGPT:
As of 2024, there are over 80 Pollo Campero locations in the United States. The Guatemalan-based chain has expanded significantly across major cities, particularly in areas with a large Latin American population. The brand continues to grow due to its popularity, especially for its fried and grilled chicken offerings.
@@nicoleandmicoexactamente, you're right 🎉
@@nicoleandmico Pollo Campero is in 20 states in the US, just in California there are more than 30 restaurants (but it tastes nothing like the ones in Guatemala). It is also in Europe. Fun Fact, Pupusas are from El Salvador and not from Guatemala but we eat them regularly.
Guatemala to have fifty five food dish
Greetings
Waiting more vidios Guatemala
The dish with tomato soup + potatoes + beef broth + beef looks like Filipino afritada. I am drooling as I type this--you two are very expressive in your food reviews. I can almost taste your food
O my gosh yes you’re right! I can’t believe I (Mico) didn’t make the connection despite growing up with it. Both very great dishes. We truly are loving the food in Guatemala and a lot of it really does remind me of Filipino food too. Glad you enjoyed!
@@nicoleandmico.:::::: Caldo de res, is a French recipe…. Brought to this continent via the Spanish conquest…!! Of course that “soup” is all over the American continent now….! But. again, it’s French..!!!!
Sooooo. wherever the Spanish conquistadores visited, the soups appear….. that’s why the Filipinas have the soup too or caldo de res…..! Las filipinas have a fusion of Asian and Spanish cuisine..!!! I know a Filipino chef, and he cooks stews of his country , similar to the ones you see in the video…!! Even Chinese cuisine from southern china, with no relation to Spanish dishes, is very similar lo the Mayan stews,,, that Chinese cuisine is extraordinary delicious…. Very tasty, the spices and condiments used in the cooking process along with the meats and vegetables , do the right combination for superb cuisine..!!!!
There are Pollo Compero's in Virginia and Maryland also.
Both of you will need to run a few miles. Great video.
I love Watch your videos gays God bless you ❤
Love your videos! Btw Nico, is that a G-Shock GW-5000U that you're wearing? 😁
Wow no one ever notices my watch! Thank you! I have the G-Shock DW5600BB :)
I'll be visiting in February and I've seen lots of articles about not drinking the tap water but also being wary of the fresh fruits and vegetables, did you have any issues with this while there? Like for the chicken dish it came with fresh salad, so did you end up eating it?
We didn't drink any tap water but we ate fruits and veggies (like the salad you mentioned) regularly and never got a stomach bug in Guatemala. We have pretty strong tummies after traveling the past few years, but 5 months in Guatemala and we had no issues :)
Subanik was the meal for the mayan kings, it used to be duck, turkey and pork. Thank you for this wonderful guatemalan video. One of the best ive seen. I think yall didnt try kak ik, which is a turkey soup. You should also try peten barbacoa. There is even a barbacoa festival being done every year. The oven is undergroung. I'll share you a video
Oooooo more food recommendations. We love it it! The subanik was amazing and perfect for a meat lover like me (Mico). Can’t wait to try those other dishes you mentioned. We definitely will try

Pupusas are originally from El Salvador but we love pupusas here in Guatemala as well
Hi guys hello from Montreal Canada 🇨🇦. What a delicious food. I’m from Guatemala too, and I haven't been to Guatemala for over 20 years, and next year I will finally go.🙏🏻🤑😊and have fun there guys 😉

I’m hungry 🤤
I'm hungry too just looking at the thumbnail of the video lol
I have a pollo campero here in California just 1/2 a mile away from my place.
Res is pronounced almost like “race” with a slight roll on the R 😊
Gracias!
This looks amazing, BUT don't u get sick from eating it??? I'm going in February but I don't know what to do about it lol
It’s very rare and we almost never regret trying the local cuisine. Restaurants are usually fairly safe but were a bit more selective with street food
I hope your next destination is Bangladesh🥰🇧🇩
I'm from jutiapa Guatemala
We never knew that. Thank you for sharing 😊🙏

I know the place you guys were in the intro like 20 second.
I am so jealous 😂.
Mmmh 😋
So good!
Is Guatemala safe??
Guatemala , is just like any other country . We have our social problems , and of course you don’t go to places you shouldn’t be.
It has its problems but I go there all the time so far so good. Ofcourse, use caution dont go around with flashy jewerly and showing your money and avoid places you shouldnt go to.
As long as you do not bring your children. Sorry, I have watched too many of their sad video's.
So far we have had no problems in three months being here. We tend to stick to touristy areas but we do venture off path many times. As many people have commented already, some places are better than others and it’s always important to practice some common sense when visiting new places (that goes for anywhere in the world)
Is not Philadelphia , don't you know ? or Vancouver ? you can investigate and then ask.
What they ate is
You probably already know that pupusas are from El Salvcador.
*They aren't from el salvador they are a meso american dish salvadorans just like claiming everything. We don't claim it but we do make them. Cheers*
Rincon antigüeño translate to antique corner ..
Ahh we never knew that. Thank you!
👍👌🇬🇹🇬🇹
Is une in new jersey Pollo campero
Chapin here, doing justice to our salvadorian brothers. Pupusas are a salvadorian delicacy, we took it as a borrowed dish, as it isn't ours. But yeah, pupusas are amazing and we love em.
All of it looks so incredible and there is nothing like fresh pupusas. I have yet to make use of the fantastic recipe that another viewer, Walter_Arrecis_Letona sent me to make Mole de Plátano Guatemlateco, but I will soon.
why don't you leave them a tip
